Human-Centered Design and Participation Advocate

Susan is a consultant in the field of human-centered design and research, supporting a wide variety of organizations in tackling problems of complexity. Her work involves deeply focusing on and empowering the every day people who depend on complex systems, helping them to learn, understand, and collaborate on radically better solutions. Her early career involved work in participatory design for the design thinking firm Fitch, as well as instructional and user-centered design for Silicon Valley giants such as Apple Computer. Her more recent collaborations have been with nonprofits TechSoup Global, The Restart Project, UNICEF, the Center for Civic Media at MIT, and various educational software companies. She has a creative background in art, music, film, holds an M.A. in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University, and is knowledgeable in the ecological systems disciplines of permaculture, transition design, and biomimicry.
